Commentary:
There must be a lotta angry parents and college-bound teens in New York. The College Board, administrator of the all-important SAT test, issued a press release
last week announcing that 4,000 test scores from the October 2005 SAT
test were misreported. The exam takers didn't receive credit for
getting some questions right, meaning that the reported scores were
LOWER than they should have been. The New York Times reported last week that the bulk of the affected students are located in New York and New Jersey.
The timing couldn't be worse. The October test exam is one that
high school seniors (if they didnt' take the SAT the previous spring)
rely on to decide which colleges to apply to. Furthermore, the
admissions office in colleges and universities use these test scores,
as part of the application process, to determine who gets admitted, and
how much scholarship the applicants qualify for.
If I was the parent of an affected student, I would be writing to my
federal, state, and local representatives in office and demanding an
investigation into this matter.
