It's not a surprise. Time Magazine
posted an excerpt for the new book, "The One Percent Doctrine: Deep
Inside America's Pursuit of its Enemies Since 9/11" by Pulitzer prize
winning author Ron Suskind. The book described how an Al-Qaeda
cell planned hydrogen cyanide gas attacks in NYC subway cars in 2003.
I've read all seven pages of the excerpt posted at Time's
website, and the book seems really, really intense.
A terrorist attack in the subway system is something that riders should
expect as a possibility. The random bag search policy enacted
last summer is a grim reminder. The Terrorism Hot Line
(1-888-NYC-SAFE) is another reminder.
The fact of the matter is that NYC residents who take the subway NEED
to, not because they want to. And this book will not change
people's method of transportation.
