I told you so. Back on January 3, 2006,
I predicted that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will cut
funding for NYC. Back then, the DHS announced a change in the
formula for doling out grant money to include consideration for natural
disasters, i.e. the risk of a Katrina type event. This change in
formula will allow more cities to qualify, and increasing the
possibility of a smaller piece of the pie for NYC.
Yesterday, the DHS issued a press release
announcing the grants for year 2006. NYC's take is $124.5
million, a steep drop of 40% from the previous year, according to an article in today's New York Newsday.
Hey Congressman Peter King: any chance of appealing the DHS' decision?
