Has the world famous Second Avenue Deli closed its
doors for good? The New York Times reported
yesterday that the Deli has been closed since Sunday, due to a contract
dispute with the landlord over the new lease. The landlord is
seeking a $9,000 increase over the current $24,000 monthly rent.
That's 37.5% increase, folks! In one year!
The Deli
also needs to shell out a few hundred grand for renovations in the
basement. I wouldn't blame the store owner for closing
permanently.
[UPDATE: Looks like it IS closing for good; the Deli's signs have been
taken down and stuff have been taken out of the basement.]
