Last week, the New York Daily News broke the story
where a NY Post Page Six gossip columnist alledgedly tried to extort
money from a billionaire investor. Now, the accused is claiming
he was set up, and that he was asking for an investment in his new
clothing line, reports the Associated Press.
Obviously, there's a lot of information being gathered by the FBI, and
it's too early to speculate on whether there was in fact an extortion
attempt. But if it plays out that this sort of transaction (money
to stay off the gossip page) occurs on a regular basis, then people
will not read the Page Six column. And the New York Post will be
biggest loser in that case, when people stop buying its paper.
